Too Few New Jersey Toys
I searched far and wide, and only found a handful of wooden toys from The Garden State.
Woodpeckers Crafts of Lakewood, NJ offers one of the best selections of wooden craft parts I’ve ever seen. But since “[Woodpeckers] sources [their] wood responsibly and do the majority of [their] production in the USA,” it means their toy crafts aren’t exactly made in New Jersey. It’s not a bad thing, it means Woodpeckers doesn’t qualify for the list.
Automoblox — an innovative wooden toy car brand — used to be owned, operated, and manufactured in Cranford, NJ. You can still buy the toys, but the company was acquired in 2016, and no longer calls New Jersey home.
There aren’t as many toys as we’d like today, but let’s look to the horizon for New Jersey’s future wooden toy renaissance. Until then, at least we can revel in the grand memory of New Jersey’s rich toy history — and shop at family-owned New Jersey toy stores.
