(01) Made From RI

An online gift shop with all kinds of Rhode Islands made products — including a quaint selection of classic unfinished wooden baby rattles — no paints, no varnishes.

Their “Slide-Bars Rattle” and “Tri-Bars Rattle” offer both movement and dimension uniquely designed by this South Kingstown, RI maker. (At the moment, Made in RI is the only well-known company selling Rhode Island made wooden toys.)

A Rhode Island Toy Making Time Capsule

  • Chance To Create — Until some time before 2025, the Chance To Create brand sold  children’s sensory activities with wooden loose parts and other non-wooden trinkets for kids to explore. Providing children with assorted tangible doo-dads to build tactile awareness of textures, shapes, and sizes through hands-on play.
  • The Design Stoke — Until the year 2021, The Design Stoke made minimalist open-wall doll houses under the slogan “modern dollhouses for the modern family” — The Design Stoke’s Scandinavian-style natural birch plywood dollhouses came unpainted and laser cut with the thoughtfully detailed shapes and symmetry.
  • Rocking Boards By Shane — For 10 years until their closure in 2021, Rocking Boards By Shane —  one man in his Rhode Island workshop — crafted Waldorf inspired wooden rocking boards for toddlers to wobble back and forth. Designed primarily for motor development — but also Waldorf-inspired for imaginative indoor play — using the length of the board as a boat, a bridge, or fort.
  • TynieToy — Established in Providence, RI in the 1920s during the World War I era, TynieToy was an early American doll house company. Recognized for authenticity and detail — the doll houses mimicked the construction of New England architecture and filled with tiny scale furniture and decorative artwork in vogue. Today, the legacy TynieToy brand’s toys and history are preserved by organizations such as the Handicraft Club and Providence Public Library.
