(01) Arbor Inspirations
Although most of their wooden creations are decorative and not for play — I’d say Arbor Inspirations is Colorado’s grand central for natural tree slice toys with the bark left on — you just can’t get a more organic toy than that.
Designed with Montessori principles in mind and handmade exactly as nature intended, this toy brings nature inside your playroom.

(02) Little Colorado
***Unfortunately, it appears Little Colorado has recently gone out of business, or at least their products are no longer available.***
Little Colorado — based in Denver, CO — is a socially aware, eco-conscious workshop creating heirloom-quality children’s furniture crafted with Montessori and Waldorf inspiration. Their collection includes shelves, desks, dollhouses, beds, playstands, and matching chairs.
Especially innovative — many feature convertible heights, drawers, and doors for open-ended versatility. Most unique is their modular Montessori shelving system, which stacks up to three tiers high or disassembles into all sorts of play setups — beautifully organized for quick changing creative activities. (Their website currently has some issues, but we hope they’ll be back up and running soon!)

(03) Studio 905 Colorado
Handcrafted from reclaimed exotic purple heart wood — Studio 905 creates unusual wooden stand-up jigsaw puzzles for the ages. The first unusual thing is all-positive — an extensive selection of uncommon animals — elephant, dolphin, dragon, bear, bunny, pig, dog, cat, kangaroo, fish, duck, lion, penguin, squirrel, goat, bull, monkey, polar bear, turtle, and quail.
The second unusual part are the tabs and slots — the inny and outy parts that connect puzzle pieces together — seem less cleanly-fit than most wooden puzzles. I suppose that’s the woodworker’s signature style! It’s like the pieces have grown together more organically than any freestanding puzzles I’ve seen before.

(05) Simply Shining The Light
Simply Shining The Light is a family-run Catholic maker of wooden toys bringing faith and family tradition into children’s everyday play.
Located in Thornton, CO, their collection includes wooden puzzles that introduce kids to Jesus’ “I Am” sayings, the Nativity story, Easter, and Mary as Mother of God — all designed to make scripture approachable to younger generations — inspiring hands-on learning and devotion.

(04) Pork Chop Show
All say it to you straight — Pork Chop Show is a little zany! Remixing nostalgic pop culture into modern laser-cut wooden craft pieces and collectables — I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. Peculiar and curious, it’s exactly the type of thing adults will be just as excited to explore as children.
(05) Sun Flower Puzzles
Kid-friendly wooden tray puzzles in solid colors and simple shapes made in Longmont, CO. With a totally retro feel — like you’re buying the kind of puzzle children were playing with back in the 70s. Pretty groovy!

A Colorado Toy Making Time Capsule
- Bub & Boo — Until some time before 2025, Bub & Boo sold stylish and safe baby and toddler toys made by a Centennial State stay-at-home mom. Specialized in Montessori-style and Waldorf-inspired wood loose parts play experiences, each toy set had a gorgeous soft color scheme.
- Rebel Gypsy Artist — Before 2025, this brand was geared up with geeks in mind — Rebel Gypsy Artist made natural wood yoyos with dozens of nerdy logos. On the other side of the yoyo, customers could custom laser-engrave their names in a number of stylized fonts. Yo, yo, yo!
- Holly & Honey — Until the year 2023, Holly & Honey handmade heirloom quality hand-painted peg dolls celebrating everyday heroes — around the world and back at home. Most peg doll styles come with the option of male or female — promoting gender equality in all cultures and professions — and they worked great to top wedding cakes!
- Precious Pegs & Paper — Until 2023, after nearly 10 years selling creative wooden peg dolls, Precious Pegs & Paper drew inspiration from all corners of this whimsical world — from bible stories, to cartoon characters, to pop culture references. Precious Pegs & Paper hand-painted adorable faces and costumes onto pegs that both children and adults adored.
- While They Are Little — Until the year 2021, While They Are Little was Colorado’s new kid on the block. They handcrafted simple non-toxic wooden toys — most popular were their line of baby rattles, toy cameras poised to encourage open-ended creative play. That’s not to mention their wooden cheese toy — don’t get me started!
